Obverse description Central field features the crowned arms of Holland — a rampant lion on a vertically striped shield — surmounted by an elaborate crowned helmet with acanthus mantling. The denomination mark '2' appears to the left of the shield and 'G' to the right, indicating the face value of 2 Gulden. The peripheral Latin legend VIGILATE DEO CONFIDENTES runs around the circumference, interrupted by the central device, with a finely executed milled border encircling the entire design. The overall composition is characteristic of late 17th-century Dutch provincial coinage, rendered with bold relief appropriate to this piedfort striking.
