Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse is printed in brown and pink tones on plain paper, with the large bold Gothic-script title 'Danziger 2 Gulden' across the upper portion, flanked by the denomination '2' repeated vertically in the side margins. A central block of German text states the terms of redemption, referencing the Danziger Zentralkasse Aktiengesellschaft and payable in London upon presentation of notes totalling at least 25 Danziger Gulden, dated 'Danzig, den 22. Opmerkingen

The Danziger Zentralkasse was established specifically to handle the monetary chaos that followed Danzig's designation as a Free City under the Treaty of Versailles in 1920. Separated from both Germany and the newly reconstituted Poland, the city required its own financial infrastructure almost overnight. The Zentralkasse filled that gap before the Bank von Danzig was formally chartered in 1924, making the entire Zentralkasse note series transitional by design — always intended to be replaced.

1923 was the year of peak German hyperinflation next door, which put constant pressure on Danzig's own currency despite its nominal independence from the Reich.
