Reverse description The reverse presents a purely typographic design, with the name ERZHERZOG JOHANN VON OESTERREICH inscribed in four lines of bold raised Roman capitals across the centre of the field. A crossed laurel branch ornament decorates the lower portion of the field beneath the inscription. The surrounding circular legend, reading along the upper and lower periphery within a toothed border, records the date of Archduke John's election as Imperial Regent of Germany on 29 June 1848.
