Aanvullende informatie

Frederick Augustus II of Saxony — simultaneously Augustus III of Poland — married Maria Josepha of Austria in 1719, making this a delayed commemorative issued nearly three decades after the union. Marriage coins of this type were sometimes struck well after the event itself, serving dynastic propaganda purposes rather than marking the occasion in real time. The Albertinian line had particular incentive to reinforce the Polish-Saxon dynastic connection during the 1740s, as the War of the Austrian Succession was actively redrawing alliances across Central Europe.

The billon composition at .4375 fine reflects the chronic silver shortages that plagued Saxon minting throughout the mid-eighteenth century.
