Obverse description A rampant lion, helmeted and facing left, is depicted seated within a decorative inner ring composed of a series of arcs or lobes, giving the field a Gothic architectural framing. The lion, serving as the heraldic device of the County of Holland, is rendered in a stylized medieval manner with detailed mane and foliage-like flourishes. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin script is separated from the inner design by a beaded border, and reads the comital and ducal titles of William V.

Reverse description A short cross pattée with flared, flowered terminals occupies the central field, set within a double circle of beaded borders. Between the two concentric legend bands, uncial Latin inscriptions are separated by pellets serving as word dividers. The inner legend carries a religious invocation while the outer band identifies the monetary authority, together reflecting the standard Gothic groot format of the Low Countries in the late fourteenth century.
