| Beschrijving voorzijde | The quartered arms of Heinsberg occupy the entire field, divided by a plain cross into four quarters, each bearing the heraldic charges associated with the prince-bishop John of Heinsberg. The shield is rendered in a bold, flat medieval style typical of hammered coinage of the Low Countries. A beaded inner circle frames the armorial design, and a continuous Gothic uncial legend encircles the field, identifying the issuer by his ecclesiastical and secular titles. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval episcopal coinage from the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. |
