The cross is rendered in high relief, consistent with the hammered technique typical of Netherlandish billon coinage of this period. An interior legend within the beaded circle reads: +MOnETA: FAC: In: VALEnC, identifying the mint of Valenciennes. An exterior legend, separated by an additional beaded border, bears the devotional inscription: +SIT noMEn DOMInI BEnEDICTVM. The coin's irregular flan edge and characteristic die-struck relief are typical of early fifteenth-century Low Countries monetary production. |
