| Beschrijving voorzijde | Crowned and draped bust of Christian III facing right, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style typical of mid-16th century Danish coinage. The effigy occupies the central field, with the royal crown prominently displayed above the head. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, identifying the king and his titles. The die work reflects the hammered technique characteristic of the period. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Christian III consolidated Danish Lutheranism through royal decree in 1536, dissolving Catholic episcopal authority and seizing church wealth to fund the crown — a financial windfall that directly underwrote ambitious gold coinage programs through the mid-sixteenth century. The 1557 date places this piece in the final year of his reign; Christian died in January 1559, though some sources cite complications surrounding the exact transition to Frederick II.
The Hede 2 attribution puts this among the earliest and scarcest of Danish gold gulden issues. Surviving examples in any grade are infrequently encountered at auction.
