Anvaing is a small village in Hainaut, and the Sucrerie d'Anvaing was a beet sugar refinery — exactly the kind of rural industrial employer that issued emergency scrip during the German occupation of Belgium in 1914, when official coinage vanished from circulation almost immediately after the invasion. These notes were a practical response to a real problem: workers needed to be paid and local commerce needed a medium of exchange.
Leherte-Courtin in Renaix was a regional printer, not a security press, and these notes should be assessed accordingly.
