Société Anonyme de la Grande Comore was a French colonial plantation and trading company operating on Grande Comore island, and this token was issued because the First World War had effectively severed regular coin supplies to the smaller French colonial territories. With metropolitan France diverting metal and shipping capacity to the war effort, isolated outposts like Grande Comore faced acute small-change shortages. Private company scrip filled the gap — acceptable at company stores and estates, but rarely beyond them. Lec#26 is among the scarcer denominations in this emergency series.
