| Beschrijving voorzijde | The allegorical figure of the Semeuse (Sower), after the celebrated design by Louis-Oscar Roty, strides boldly to the left, her flowing robes and hair animated by the wind. She casts seeds with her outstretched right hand while carrying a satchel over her left arm. A rising sun with radiating rays appears in the right field behind her, symbolising the dawning of a new republic. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE arcs around the periphery, and the engraver's attribution D'APRES O.ROTY is inscribed in the lower exergue. The design is presented within a distinctive octagonal inner border, characteristic of the piéfort striking. |
