Obverse description Central field bears six lines of Arabic legend arranged vertically, giving the ruler's name and titles, the denomination, and the Hijri date. The inscription reads 'Muhammad Al-Habib Muddat Bey of Tunisia / 2 Francs / Year 1347', flanked on each side by a stylized palm frond rising from the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed border of fine beads at the rim. No effigy is depicted, in keeping with Islamic artistic convention. The composition is symmetrical and calligraphic in character.
