2 Francs - Muhammad VI

France's Tunisian protectorate issued coinage under the name of the reigning Husainid bey, giving nominal authority to a dynasty that had lost effective power decades earlier. Muhammad VI al-Habib, bey from 1922 to 1929, signed off on little beyond ceremonial functions — the Résidence Générale in Tunis made the actual monetary decisions. The 1928 date places this coin squarely within the years of deepening French administrative control, a period when nationalist agitation was beginning to organize but had not yet coalesced into the movement that would eventually force independence in 1956.
