Reverse description Central raised circular field contains the denomination inscription in three lines: 'TUNISIE / 2 / FRANCS,' with the Gregorian year below and the Paris mint mark 'A' beneath the date. This inner circle is surrounded by an elaborate raised Arabesque border composed of interlacing scrollwork and crescent motifs, evoking Islamic decorative arts and reflecting the dual Franco-Tunisian character of the protectorate coinage. Four small five-pointed stars punctuate the ornamental border at cardinal points. The outer rim is defined by a continuous beaded border. The overall design was executed by engraver Jean Lagrange at the Monnaie de Paris.
