| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde, her hair dressed in an elaborate upswept chignon with loose curls framing the face, rendered in high relief in the Art Nouveau style. The word ESSAI appears in small letters in the right field. The engraver's initial F is positioned at the bottom of the design. A circular legend reads MARIE-ADELAIDE • GRANDE DUCHESSE DE LUXEMBOURG around the periphery, enclosed within an ornamental border of alternating beads and dashes. |
