Essai strikes for the Comoro Islands in this period were produced at the Paris Mint as part of the administrative process required before any new coinage could enter circulation in French overseas territories. This particular piece never led to a circulating issue — the 2 franc denomination was abandoned before production commenced, leaving the essai without a successor.
