Obverse description The face is dominated by an intricate green guilloche underprint over a light teal background, with stylised torch vignettes at the left and right margins. The numeral '2' appears in each of the four corners, with the word 'DEUX' above and 'FRANCS' below a central rosette bearing the value digit. The border consists of a finely engraved dark frame with ornamental corner devices.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in blue and red on a white ground, with a waving tricolour French flag on a flagpole rising from a burst of radiating guilloche lines that fill the upper field. Below the flag, a decorative cartouche with scrollwork encloses the Republican motto in three lines. The border replicates the engraved frame of the obverse in blue.
