Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, her hair elaborately coiffed and adorned with a radiate diadem, with flowing wavy locks falling to her shoulder. In the lower field behind the bust, two sailing vessels are depicted in low relief, evoking the maritime character of the territory. The engraver's signature L.BAZOR appears at lower left and the mark GB at lower right. The date 1948 is inscribed in the exergue, flanked by small decorative devices. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE UNION FRANÇAISE runs along the upper periphery.
