Additional information

Monaco's 2 Franc aluminium-bronze coinage of 1924–25 was struck under Prince Louis II, who had only recently consolidated his rule following the death of Albert I in 1922. The Monnaie de Paris handled the issue, as Monaco has never maintained its own mint. Louis II had spent much of his early life as a military officer in the French Foreign Legion — an unusual biographical detail for a reigning prince — and monetary affairs during his reign were largely subordinated to French fiscal policy under the terms of the 1918 Franco-Monegasque treaty.
