Hungary's postwar monetary reconstruction in 1946 remains one of the most dramatic currency stabilizations in recorded history — the pengő had collapsed into the worst hyperinflation ever documented, with denominations reaching 100 quintillion. The new forint system, introduced August 1, 1946, required extensive preparatory work, and trial strikes in various compositions were produced to evaluate suitability before final alloy decisions were made.
Tombac was ultimately rejected for the circulating 2 forint in favor of aluminum. That decision makes this piece a dead-end in the design process rather than a precursor.
