| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the papal arms of Leo X (Medici family shield bearing six roundels arranged in orle) surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed Keys of Saint Peter, all rendered in high relief in the Italian Renaissance hammered style. Floral and foliate decorative elements fill the spaces to either side of the shield. The circular Latin legend PONT. MAX. LEO. X. runs along the periphery, separated by pellet stops, within a plain inner border and an outer beaded rim. |
