By 1952, Faisal II was still a minor under regent rule, and Iraq's coin production remained contracted to the Royal Mint in London. The 1952 issue came just months before the November intifada, when widespread riots against the ruling establishment forced the regent Abd al-Ilah to declare martial law and dissolve political parties. Circulated examples from this year entered a country in acute political stress.
