Iraq's first native coinage was authorized following the Anglo-Iraqi Treaty of 1922, but production didn't materialize until after Faisal I secured formal independence and League of Nations membership in 1932. The Royal Mint in London struck these pieces, as Iraq had no domestic minting infrastructure. The timing was politically loaded — Faisal needed a functioning currency to signal statehood, not just a flag.
Faisal I died in September 1933, making this short three-year window the entirety of his coinage under an independent Iraq.
