2 Falus - Moulay al-Hasan I

Moulay al-Hasan I spent much of his reign on military campaign — his famous harka expeditions across the Sous and the pre-Saharan south were partly an exercise in reasserting makhzen authority over tribes that had grown accustomed to ignoring Marrakech. The bronze falus issues of this period were struck at the Fez and Marrakech mints, both operating with inconsistent dies and variable flan preparation, which accounts for the frequent off-center strikes and uneven surfaces collectors encounter on nearly every example.
