| Obverse description | The central field features three red ribbons symbolising solidarity in the global fight against AIDS, originally designed by the Visual AIDS Artists Caucus and American painter Frank Moore. One ribbon is depicted in the conventional upward-pointing position and applied in colour red on the BU and proof versions, while the two flanking ribbons are shown inverted, each paired with a 'V' motif to represent the aspiration for victory over the disease. The legend '1er DECEMBRE JOURNEE MONDIALE CONTRE LE SIDA' arcs across the upper field, with the issuer initials 'RF' and the date '2014' inscribed below. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union in relief. |
