| 裏面の説明 | The standard European Union reverse design for the 2 euro denomination, as introduced in 2007, depicts a stylised geographical map of Europe without borders across both the inner disc and outer ring. The bold numeral 2 appears in the left portion of the inner disc against an open field representing the Atlantic Ocean, with the inscription EURO to its right. Twelve five-pointed stars, symbolic of European unity, are arranged in the outer ring, six above and six below the map, with six vertical relief lines bridging the upper and lower star groups across the inner core. |

Valletta has held UNESCO World Heritage status since 1980, recognized for one of the highest concentrations of historic buildings per square kilometer anywhere in Europe — a density owing directly to the Knights of St. John, who built the city from scratch following the Great Siege of 1565. Malta's €2 commemorative program has drawn heavily on this architectural patrimony, and Valletta, as the fortified capital founded by Grand Master Jean de Valette, is an obvious subject. The city turned 450 years old in 2016, the same year it was designated European Capital of Culture for 2018.
