| Reverse description | The reverse displays the standard European Union 2 Euro commemorative design by Luc Luycx, featuring a relief map of Europe extending beyond the coin's borders, rendered without national boundaries. The numeral '2' appears in large relief to the left of centre, with the legend 'EURO' inscribed below it. Twelve stars of the European Union surround the central design within the outer ring, and the designer's initials 'LL' are visible in the lower right of the inner circle. |

Issued to mark the 550th anniversary of Academia Istropolitana, founded in 1465 by Matthias Corvinus in Bratislava — making it the first university established on Hungarian kingdom territory. The institution lasted barely two decades; after Corvinus died in 1490, patronage collapsed and the university ceased functioning before the century ended. Slovakia claimed it as a national founding moment despite its short operational life and the complicated dynastic politics behind its creation.
