Additional information

Issued to mark the 30th anniversary of Malta's participation in the Erasmus Programme, this coin was part of a coordinated eurozone commemorative series on the theme of peace — a theme chosen by EU institutions to coincide with the programme's anniversary and reinforce its founding rationale as a mechanism for cross-border cooperation among European youth. Malta joined the Erasmus Programme in 1992, four years after its 1987 launch, making the island one of the earlier non-founding participants relative to its size.
