| Beschrijving voorzijde | The inner disc bears an allegorical personification of the French Republic rendered in the style of official letterheads of the late 18th century. Flanking the central figure are the inscriptions 'Liberté' to the left and 'Egalité' to the right of the field. A semicircular legend reading 'ARRIVAL OF THE FRENCH IN MALTA' arcs across the upper portion of the disc, preceded at the lower left by the inscription '225th ANNIVERSARY'. The dual dates '1798–2023' appear at the upper right, with the year of issue '2023' and the engraver's initials 'NGB' inscribed at the base. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union flag. |

This coin marks the 225th anniversary of Napoleon's fleet landing at Malta in June 1798, an episode that ended over two centuries of Knights Hospitaller rule on the island in under a week. The French garrison that followed proved deeply unpopular — their seizure of Church property triggered a Maltese uprising within months, ultimately drawing in British forces and setting the island on its path toward becoming a Crown Colony.
Malta's commemorative euro program has consistently chosen politically loaded subjects. The French arrival is among the sharper choices.
