Obverse description The inner disc bears an allegorical personification of the French Republic rendered in the style of official letterheads of the late 18th century. Flanking the central figure are the inscriptions 'Liberté' to the left and 'Egalité' to the right of the field. A semicircular legend reading 'ARRIVAL OF THE FRENCH IN MALTA' arcs across the upper portion of the disc, preceded at the lower left by the inscription '225th ANNIVERSARY'. The dual dates '1798–2023' appear at the upper right, with the year of issue '2023' and the engraver's initials 'NGB' inscribed at the base. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union flag.

Reverse description The standard European Union reverse design for the 2-euro denomination, as introduced in 2007, depicts a broad geographical map of Europe extending across both the inner disc and the outer ring. The bold numeral '2' is positioned in the open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean, with the denomination legend 'EURO' to its right. Six vertical lines traverse the inner disc, linking the upper and lower groupings of the twelve EU stars distributed across the right-hand portion of the outer ring. The mint mark 'LL' appears within the design field.
