| 表面の説明 | The nordic gold centre features a detailed architectural view of Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square) in Prague, dominated by the Gothic twin-spired Church of Our Lady before Týn and the adjacent historic burgher houses, rendered in high relief. The inscription PRAHA appears in the right field of the centre, while the date 2004 is engraved in the upper portion of the outer copper-nickel ring. The legend ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA curves along the lower arc of the ring, and twelve five-pointed stars are distributed around the ring in the standard euro coinage style. |

The Czech Republic joined the EU in May 2004 and was formally expected to adopt the euro, which required the production of trial strike sets in all denominations for technical evaluation by the ECB. These probe pieces were never intended for circulation and were distributed only to minting authorities, central bank officials, and a small number of institutional collectors. Prague has since repeatedly delayed eurozone entry — the target date has been pushed back so many times that no official accession date currently exists.
