Reverse description The reverse bears the standard European Union 2 euro design by Luc Luycx, featuring a globe-perspective map of the European continent set against a background of parallel lines, with national borders omitted to emphasize European unity. The face value '2 EURO' is inscribed to the left of the map, with the designer's initials 'LL' appearing in the lower right field. The twelve stars of the European Union encircle the central motif within the coin's inner disc, while the outer ring is decorated with the alternating reed pattern characteristic of the bimetallic series.

Additional information

Philippe ascended to the Belgian throne in July 2013 following the abdication of his father Albert II — only the second abdication in Belgian royal history — making this the first regular-issue Belgian 2 euro to carry his effigy. The coin entered circulation in 2014 and will remain current for as long as his reign continues, giving the series an open-ended run unusual among eurozone definitive issues.
