| Additional information |
Andorra's euro coinage is issued under a monetary agreement with the EU, not full membership — the principality has no central bank and historically used French francs and Spanish pesetas concurrently before euroization. This particular issue commemorates Our Lady of Meritxell, the patron saint of Andorra, whose sanctuary in the village of Meritxell was destroyed by fire in 1972 and rebuilt by Ricardo Bofill, reopening in 1976.
