The mint year '2026' and the mint mark letter are inscribed vertically to the right of the portrait. The engraver's initials 'MD' appear in the lower field beneath the portrait. Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Adenauer's birth, this coin commemorates the man who served as West Germany's first Chancellor from 1949 to 1963 — longer than any other holder of that office to date. His chancellorship oversaw the Wirtschaftswunder, West German rearmament, and the country's integration into NATO, all of which remained bitterly contested decisions during his tenure. He was 73 when he took office and 87 when he finally left it.
