| Beschrijving voorzijde | The bimetallic inner core features an abstract composition of stylized human figures formed from and intertwined within ribbon-like, net-patterned elements, symbolizing the interconnected nature of journalism. The legend JOURNALISMI JOURNALISTIK — the word for journalism in Finnish and Swedish respectively — is inscribed along the left and right margins of the inner core. The date 2021 and the country code FI, preceded by the Mint of Finland mint mark, appear at the base of the inner core. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union flag arranged in a circle. |

Finland issued this piece to mark the centenary of the country's first journalism education program, established at the University of Helsinki in 1921 — one of the earliest such academic programs in the Nordic region. The commemorative falls within the Finnish national series of €2 coins dedicated to education and civic institutions, a program that has produced some of the more thoughtfully chosen subjects in the eurozone's commemorative output.
