| Reverse description | The standard European reverse features a relief map of Western Europe spanning both the central disc and the inner portion of the outer ring on the right side of the coin. The denomination 2 EURO is superimposed across the map, with the numeral 2 prominently placed in the open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the word EURO inscribed across the continental landmass. Twelve stars of the European Union are distributed along the right arc of the outer ring, with six above and six below the map, and six vertical lines in the inner core visually link the two groups of stars. The mint mark of the Monnaie de Paris and the engraver's initials LL appear in the field. |

Issued under the European Commission's framework allowing member states to select their own commemorative themes, Malta's 2021 release honored healthcare workers during the COVID-19 crisis — one of dozens of national commemoratives struck across the eurozone that year on the same subject. Malta's edition was produced at the Kremnica Mint in Slovakia, which has handled much of the island nation's coinage output since Malta joined the eurozone in 2008.
