Issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the volunteer army established by Grand Duke William I in 1817, this coin commemorates Luxembourg's earliest post-Napoleonic military institution. The force was created under Dutch suzerainty — Luxembourg was then part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands — making "Henri I" in the coin's name a deliberate anachronism, invoking the dynasty's Luxembourgish identity rather than the political reality of 1817.
