Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse, common to all eurozone 2-euro commemorative coins, was designed by Luc Luycx and features a geographic representation of the European continent rendered without internal national borders against a finely lined background. The face value '2 EURO' appears to the left of the map, with the designer's initials 'LL' incorporated into the design. Six fine lines traverse the left portion of the field, and the twelve stars of the European Union are split between the inner disc and the outer ring.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued jointly by the Monnaie de Paris and the Royal Dutch Mint on behalf of Luxembourg to mark the 15th anniversary of Grand Duke Henri's accession to the throne in 2000, this coin was struck under a longstanding arrangement by which Luxembourg — lacking its own mint — contracts production to neighboring facilities. The commemorative program was authorized under EU regulations permitting member states two commemorative €2 issues per year.

Henri succeeded his father Jean, who abdicated after a 36-year reign — the only abdication in Luxembourg's modern history until that point.
