Additional information

Malta's 2017 commemorative marks the Ħaġar Qim megalithic complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating to roughly 3600–3200 BC — among the oldest freestanding stone structures on earth, predating both Stonehenge and the Giza pyramids. The temples were first systematically excavated in 1839, though the site had been documented by travelers as early as 1647.

A protective tent structure was installed over Ħaġar Qim in 2009 after decades of documented deterioration from rainfall and thermal expansion cracking the coralline limestone megaliths.
