Finland's 2017 commemorative €2 marked the country's centennial of independence, declared on December 6, 1917, following the collapse of Russian imperial authority after the October Revolution. The "Finnish Nature" theme was selected through a public vote — a practice the Mint of Finland has used repeatedly to build civic engagement around its commemorative program.
Mintage was relatively high, limiting long-term premium potential for circulated examples.
