Obverse description The bimetallic inner disc bears a stylised effigy of a whooper swan (Finland's national bird), rendered in a flowing, naturalistic style by artist Hannu Veijalainen. Flanking the swan design are the commemorative dates '1811' and '2011' in the field, referencing the bicentennial of the Bank of Finland, established by decree of Emperor Alexander I of Russia. The mint mark 'FI' appears within the inner disc. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union arranged in a continuous arc.
