Obverse description The nickel-brass centre features overlapping left-facing effigies of King Juan Carlos I and his successor King Felipe VI, rendered in high relief with fine detail to facial features and hair. The portrait of Felipe VI is positioned in the foreground, partially overlapping that of Juan Carlos I set behind and to the left, symbolising the dynastic transition of June 2014. The Madrid Mint mark (crowned M) appears to the right of the dual portraits, below the shoulder of Felipe VI. The legend ESPAÑA and the date 2014 are inscribed along the lower arc of the centre field. The copper-nickel outer ring carries the standard twelve five-pointed stars of the European Union, evenly spaced around the circumference.
