| 正面描述 | The centre of the coin depicts the European Union flag rendered in relief, showing the circle of twelve five-pointed stars arranged on a billowing flag design, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the EU flag (1985–2015). The flag motif occupies the full inner disc, with fine detail conveying the fabric's folds and movement. The legend ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ (Hellenic Republic) is inscribed along the upper arc of the inner field, with the commemorative dates 1985–2015 positioned to the right. The engraver's initials ΓΣ (Geórgios Stamatópoulos) appear in the lower right of the centre. The outer copper-nickel ring bears twelve raised five-pointed stars, the symbolic emblem of the European Union. |

Greece's 2015 €2 circulation issue arrived during one of the most acute sovereign debt crises in eurozone history. That same year, Greek banks were shuttered for three weeks, ATM withdrawals were capped at €60 per day, and the country came within hours of a forced exit from the single currency. The coins were minted and distributed even as the government negotiated its third bailout package under terms that split both the ruling Syriza party and its creditors.
There is a particular irony in mass-producing a coin celebrating European unity during the summer of the Greferendum.
