| Obverse description | The bimetallic centre features a draped allegorical female figure in left profile, rendered in a classical Renaissance style, holding an open scroll or document in her left hand — symbolising the European Constitution. To her right, a bull or bovine figure and olive branch appear in the lower field, evoking classical Italic imagery. The mint mark 'R' is positioned to the upper left of the central design, and the date '2005' appears to the right of the figure. The monogram of the Italian Republic ('RI') is displayed on a scroll element in the lower centre of the inner disc. The legend 'COSTITUZIONE EUROPEA' arcs along the lower portion of the outer copper-nickel ring, which is also adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union. |
