Aversbeschreibung The inner disc features a stylised portrait of the humanist scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam, rendered in a contemporary graphic style, occupying the left portion of the field. Radiating from the portrait is a network of connecting arcs and nodes extending across the disc, symbolising the intellectual and human exchanges fostered by the Erasmus Programme; several of these links converge to form additional star motifs, representing European unity born from cross-border cooperation. The numeral '35', commemorating the 35th anniversary of the programme, emerges prominently from the star elements in a bold, modern typeface. The legend ERASMUS PROGRAMME and the dates 1987-2022 appear within the field, along with the Irish form ÉIRE and the initials J.J. denoting the designer. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union flag.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Ireland's 2022 Erasmus commemorative marks the programme's 35th anniversary. Launched in 1987, Erasmus initially funded exchanges for just over 3,000 students across 11 European countries; by 2022 it had moved more than 12 million people across borders. Ireland has historically punched above its weight in participation rates relative to population, a fact that made this issue a natural fit for the Central Bank's commemorative programme.
