Beschrijving voorzijde The inner disc features a stylised portrait of the humanist scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam at left, rendered in a contemporary graphic style, accompanied by radiating link-chains that extend across the field to represent intellectual and human exchanges among European students. Several of these links converge to form additional star motifs, symbolising the synergy between participating nations, while the numerals '35' emerge prominently from the star formation in reference to the programme's 35th anniversary. The designer's initials 'J.J.' appear in the field, along with the inscription 'ERASMUS PROGRAMM' and 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' and the date range '1987–2022'. The outer ring is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union flag.

Beschrijving keerzijde The standard Austrian reverse for the 2 euro denomination depicts a geographic map of Europe spanning both the inner disc and the outer ring on the right side of the coin. The denomination '2 EURO' is inscribed across the map, with the large numeral '2' positioned in the open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Twelve stars of the European Union flag are arranged along the right portion of the outer ring, divided into two groups of six above and below the map. Six vertical relief stripes traverse the inner core, visually linking the upper and lower star groupings. The mint mark 'LL' appears in the field.
