Finland was one of several eurozone members to issue a commemorative 2 euro in 2004 marking the accession of ten new member states — the largest single expansion in EU history, bringing in Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia on 1 May of that year. Each participating mint produced its own national version; Finland's was struck at the Mint of Finland in Vantaa.
Mintage for the Finnish issue ran to approximately 1 million pieces, modest by commemorative standards and notably lower than the circulation figures for most Finnish definitive 2 euro coins.
