Andorra did not mint its own euro coinage until 2014, nearly a decade after the currency was introduced across the eurozone, owing to the time required to negotiate a formal monetary agreement with the EU — signed in 2011 and ratified in 2012. That agreement capped Andorran annual coin production and required a portion of mintage revenue to flow back to EU institutions. The 2022 issue commemorates the tenth anniversary of that ratification.
