| Obverse description | The inner circle bears a student-designed composition representing key elements of Maltese cultural heritage: a stylised rendering of the prehistoric megalithic temples, recognised as the world's oldest free-standing structures; a characteristic church dome and bell tower evoking the traditional Maltese village skyline; and a traditional Maltese fishing boat (luzzu) bearing the national flag. The legend 'MALTA' appears at the top of the inner circle, with the year of issue '2018' positioned at the bottom. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union, struck in relief against the coin's bimetallic border. |
