| Obverse description | The nickel-brass centre depicts two male figures in traditional Cretan dress standing amid stylised vegetation, one raising a flag aloft in a gesture of triumph, commemorating the union of Crete with Greece. The circular legend ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ arcs along the upper field, while the inscription 100 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΗΝ ΕΝΩΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΚΡΗΤΗΣ ΜΕ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ curves around the lower portion of the inner disc. The date range 1913-2013 appears to the right of the central motif, flanking the figures. The copper-nickel outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union in relief. |
